Today in math we took notes on when a parabola has no roots. In the quadratic formula, if you solve the b squared minus four-a-c part and the answer is negative before you square root it, this means there are no roots for the parabola. The vertex is above the y axis. This number, under the square root is called the discriminant. If the discriminant is 0, the vertex is on the x axis. Some say that could mean there is one root but others say it is two roots in the same place. If the discriminant is positive, yay! there are two roots. The vertex is below the x axis. This makes sense for circumstances like rocket launches. Due today are the completing the square sheet, quadratic formula sheet, and the vertex form sheet. These are on google classroom, with the exception of the vertex form sheet, I think. Have a happy Halloween! Below is a Jack-o-lantern. (:
