Today in math we began probability with an the Monty Hall problem. Here is the video we watched in class. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhlc7peGlGg We also studied the frequency of rolling a die and the Higher or Lower Game. We learned there would be a 0.097 percent chance of winning 10 questions in the Higher or Lower Game by guessing, this answer is received by multiplying 0.5 (50 50 chance) to the 10th power (number of questions) and multiplying it by 100 to get it in percent form. There is no homework due tomorrow.
Today in math we learned how to multiply, add, and subtract, complex numbers. A complex number is one with a real and imaginary component, like 53i. We also learned how to find the absolute value of complex numbers. To do this, use the coefficients in the complex numbers as a and b in the Pythagorean Theorem, because when plotted on the complex plane, the hypotenuse of of the triangle is the absolute value (distance away from the origin or 0).
The worksheet on this was due in class today. I apologize for missing posts due to the astronomy camping trip.
Here is a math reflection: In math we learned about imaginary numbers. One important one is i, the sqrt of 1. You can express negative sqrts using i and it's exponents. A list of i's exponents i^1= i i^2=1 i^3=i i^4=1 i^5=i and so on, so on... If you want to express a number like the sqrt of negative 9 using i, you can rewrite it as the sqrt of nine times the sqrt of negative one, or 3i. This rule is represented as the sqrt of a times the sqrt of b is the sqrt of a times b. This works for division as well. There is a worksheet about this week worked on in class, it is due next week, and is on Google Classroom. Today in math we learned about imaginary numbers, specifically i. i is the square root of negative one. You can apply i to lasers, cell phones and more. To simplify an unsolvable square root like √9, you can turn the answer to √9 times √1, or 3i.
The paper given out in class with these types of problems on it is due tomorrow, I believe. You can ask questions in the comments below! (: Today in math we took notes on when a parabola has no roots. In the quadratic formula, if you solve the b squared minus fourac part and the answer is negative before you square root it, this means there are no roots for the parabola. The vertex is above the y axis. This number, under the square root is called the discriminant. If the discriminant is 0, the vertex is on the x axis. Some say that could mean there is one root but others say it is two roots in the same place. If the discriminant is positive, yay! there are two roots. The vertex is below the x axis. This makes sense for circumstances like rocket launches. Due today are the completing the square sheet, quadratic formula sheet, and the vertex form sheet. These are on google classroom, with the exception of the vertex form sheet, I think. Have a happy Halloween! Below is a Jackolantern. (:

Today in math we received our tests back. You can correct questions and receive 3/4 of the score back. We also did an activity about completing the square. We drew boxes which represented different values of x and one. And the number of boxes corresponded with the equation produced from multiplying two x values. Here is my paper for reference. How does Batman reveal himself? He sings na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na me!! Feel free to use the comments to ask any questions. Today in math we took notes on the different forms of a quadratic equation and how to convert from expanded form to vertex form. Then we completed a kahoot and had study time. All sheets are in the classroom. The test is this Friday.
